World Intellectual Property Organization Overseeing Domain Case
According to The Conceptualist, Facebook is suing for the rights to the domain Face-Book.com. The last known registrant of Face-Book.com is Sephora, a French beauty supply company. The interesting thing about this case though, has to be the fact that Sephora registered the domain in 2001, well before Facebook was even a thought in Mark Zuckerberg’s head. Typically in the case of domains, date of registration plays an important role in the deciding whom is the rightful owner. From my vantage point, Facebook does not have a strong case (technically), but with all of the buzz and might they now have, I would not be surprised to see Sephora legally handing over this domain.
This is clearly is a sign that Facebook is taking their brand name seriously. Evidence maybe that they are tightening up the reigns for something big in the near future?
